Street Law Program

What is Street Law?

Street Law is a nationally recognized educational outreach program that exists at more than 70 law schools across the country and serves to teach practical law to the community at large.  The NKU Chase Street Law program is a cooperative effort with the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts Juvenile Services.  This program provides a unique pro bono opportunity for Chase students who want to positively influence the lives of at-risk youth in various Kentucky communities.

Juveniles in Kentucky who are charged with certain minor offenses may enter a diversion program rather than proceed through the juvenile court system.  The juveniles who are eligible for diversion are often required to participate in law related education, and Street Law classes taught by Chase students are now one option for these youth.  NKU Chase students who participate in the program attend a training session early in the semester and then teach a prepared Street Law curriculum to diverted youth in weekly two-hour sessions for a period of six weeks.
