These courses will provide Lunsford Academy Scholars with an overview of the Lunsford Academy core skills of business, finance, and technology, and engage in activities and materials demonstrating the necessity of knowledge in these areas for the modern legal practitioner. Students will have the opportunity to explore the intersections of law with entrepreneurialism and business, and consider ways they must continuously adapt as soon-to-be-lawyers in order to stay current and competent amidst the rapidly changing impact of technology on the legal profession. Students in the seminar will also spend significant time across the semester engaging in professional identity exploration, in accordance with ABA Standard 303(b). Students will also engage with materials and exercises regarding the necessity of cultural competence to the practice of law, in accordance with the ABA Standard 303(c). Through reading, discussion, and experiential opportunities, students will assess their strengths and consider how those strengths inform their professional identity as future lawyers. Students will assess their skills in developing their professional network (both in-person and digitally), finding mentors and sponsors, and engaging competently and confidently in professional events. As part of professional identify formation, students will engage in exercises and reading about health and well-being in the profession, and draw connections between wellness and our ethical obligations as lawyers.
