Description: Students participate in an externship at a law firm or corporation in the legal counsel's office in the corporate/business areas. The practicing bar is partnering with NKU Chase to provide our students with the necessary practice skills that they will need when they start practicing law. Examples of NKU Chase Transactional Law Externship placements: Wood Herron & Evans, Greenebaum Doll & McDonald, FirstGroup America corporate counsel office, Griffin Industries corporate counsel office, The Horwitz Law Firm, The Wolfe Practice Group, Sud Chemie Inc. National Legal Counsel Office, Hammond Law Firm, NKU General Counsel Office. Through this externship program, students have performed legal work in the following areas: general corporate, intellectual property, tax, contracts, patent, business transactions, real estate, immigration, bankruptcy, UCC, administrative law, environmental law, antitrust law, entertainment law, international law, securities law, insurance law, employment law and commercial litigation. This course is pass/fail and a student must work 50 hours for each hour of course credit. Students must also attend 14 hours of classroom instruction.
Prerequisite: A student must have completed at least 30 credit hours required for graduation, must be enrolled in or have completed Professional Responsibility, and must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.000.
