Description: This course is co-taught with the Kenton Commonwealth's Attorney and the Public Defender for Kenton and Campbell Counties. Students actively participate in the criminal justice system and perform the functions of a prosecutor or public defender through all facets of prosecution, including filing charges, performing investigations, responding to discovery, handling motions and hearings, and conducting jury and non-jury trials. Through a combination of experiential learning and classroom instruction, students further develop core competencies in advocacy skills and substantive knowledge required to serve as prosecutors and defense attorneys.
Prerequisite: Students must have completed at least 60 hours to participate; they must have taken Evidence and Professional Responsibility; they must be interviewed and approved by a field supervisor; and they must obtain a student license to practice. Trial Advocacy is not required, but it is preferred.
