Description: This course provides an introduction to environmental law, focusing primarily on federal statutory law.  It covers the historical development of environmental law, including the transition from common law to statutory law; the role of courts, the legislature, the executive branch, and private parties in the development and implementation of environmental policy; and the major regulatory strategies used to control environmental harm. Major statutes discussed include the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Clean Water Act.
