Description: Advanced Torts is a one-semester, three-credit course designed to cover materials generally not discussed extensively, if at all, in the basic Torts I and Torts II courses. Subject areas to be discussed include professional malpractice (with an emphasis on legal malpractice), common-law defamation, fraudulent misrepresentation, negligent misrepresentation, interference with contractual relations, misuse of the legal process, aiding and abetting and civil conspiracy, and wrongful birth. Class members will be given the option to add another topic area of common interest, e.g. tort reform. The course will rely heavily on use of the problem method.
