First-Year Students Begin Studies with Professionalism Oath

With their oath of professionalism Thursday, first-year students are more than law students, they are Chase law students and part of a legal community. During a ceremony at Northern Kentucky University:

• Judge Wende Cross, a Chase graduate who serves on the Hamilton County (Ohio) Court of Common Pleas, reminded them: “How lawyers carry out their roles can be summed up in one word: professionalism. Professionalism is made up of three things: competence, behavior and demeanor. Professionalism isn’t a label you give yourself, it’s what others attribute to you. And it begins right here, day one.”
  
• Dean Judith Daar: “It is important at the beginning of your career to understand the responsibilities you hold, so we developed this oath.”

Along with their oath to uphold professional standards, students received a small pin to represent being part of the legal community. These photos are from the ceremony, as students saw it.
