Student Amber Daniel Has a Good Day in Court

Amber Daniel

Chase student Amber Daniel succeeded on two points in the first case she prosecuted in Hamilton County Municipal Court: She obtained a guilty verdict and she showed how Chase is preparing her to become a trial lawyer.

“Chase prepared me for my trial by building my confidence. If it wasn’t for oral arguments in my 1L year and the questions asked in class, I would not have felt as confident for my first trial,” she says. That first trial, as an extern in the City of Cincinnati Law Department, resulted in a conviction for vehicle windows that were too heavily tinted.

• What she did: “I questioned the officer who wrote the ticket, as well as cross-examined the defendant. I also got to practice my skills from Evidence by objecting to some of the questioning. I ended with a brief closing argument. The whole process lasted about 30 minutes. It was extremely exciting when the judge came back with a guilty verdict.”

• What she plans: “I can’t wait for my next trial. I am hoping to be ready by the end of this year to participate in my first jury trial.” After graduation, she plans to practice in the area of criminal law.
