Chase Student Erik Crew Discovers His Future, Far From Home

Erik Crew

One of the most important lessons Erik Crew learned while a Chase student was during summer break and more than 4,100 miles from a classroom. Erik was a legal intern with the defense in a war crimes trial at The Hague, in the Netherlands.

When he combines that experience with the encouragement Chase Professor Ursula Doyle gives students in her international law classes to envision themselves in an international forum, he realizes how important this summer was for his future: “I can do this work, at a high-level, and very well,” he says.

His summer experience, through Global Rights Compliance, a non-governmental organization that focuses on international humanitarian law, included learning from a British lawyer how to cross-examine prosecution witnesses, and participating in a mock trial judged by international jurists.

Now that summer break is over, he is back a Chase, completing requirements for graduation with courses in business, family law, environmental law, and legal drafting – all important lessons no matter where he ends up.
