Jun 13, 2007 - At Northern Kentucky University Chase College of Law, NKU and Chase students, faculty and staff filled more than 30 large 30-gallon plastic bags with donations for members of the Kentucky National Guard who are deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. During the spring semester, first-year law student and staff sergeant Juan Guzman, in conjunction with the Chase Law Latino Association, arranged the “Adopt a Soldier” drive to gather items that can be hard for deployed troops to come by. The shipment of toiletries, books and other necessities was recently sent to the soldiers along with a note from Guzman telling the troops “how much people here care about you and wish that you remain safe and return home soon.”

Guzman himself was deployed to Afghanistan before coming to law school. He said the show of support at Chase surpassed what he had anticipated.

“We are proud of the support and significance of this effort in bringing a smile to our valiant brothers and sisters, sons and daughters and friends who put their lives on the line,” he said.
