Databases

The Chase Law Library provides access to numerous databases and indexes in the fields of law, government, business and general research. You will find “databases and indexes” in other fields when linking to the Steely Library web site or to the Kentucky Virtual Library page.

Remember: These research tools are available to everyone when conducting research in the Chase Law Library. The resources can be accessed a combination of ways: remotely, on campus or in the Law Library. The access method for each database is indicated at the end of each title.

  • Remote: The library subscribes to resources that are by contract restricted to use by students, faculty and staff of Northern Kentucky University. Remote Access allows these users to access these databases from off campus. Remote access requires that you enter your Northern Kentucky University username and password before linking to the resource.
  • Campus: The library subscribes to a few databases that can be accessed only when on the NKU campus.
  • Chase: The Library subscribes to a few databases that can be accessed only while at the law library. Limited remote access is available for Chase students and faculty.

Coverage banking, securities, products liability, government contracts, information technology, trade regulation and transportation law.
CCH Human Resources Network - Commerce Clearing House [Remote Access]
Coverage equal employment, human resources management, payroll, personnel practices, workplace safety and worker’s compensation.
CCH Tax Research Network - Commerce Clearing House [Remote Access]
Coverage tax regulations, tax laws, pending tax legislation, Tax Court decisions, state taxes and financial planning.

Index to U.S. congressional publications, including committee hearings, bills, reports and other documents.
CQ Researcher - Congressional Quarterly [Remote Access]
Offers an in-depth analysis of political and social issues. Reports are published weekly and the coverage is 1991 - .
CQ Weekly - Congressional Quarterly [Remote Access]
Includes in-depth reports on issues looming on the congressional horizon, plus a complete wrap up the previous week's news, including the status of bills in play, behind-the-scenes maneuvering, committee and floor activity, debates and all roll-call votes.

An index to articles published by federal agencies.
GPO - FirstSearch [Remote Access]
Used to locate United States government publications. Searching maybe easier than GPO Access.
National Security Digital Library [Campus Access]
Used to access important U.S. policy documents, presidential executive orders and directives, and national strategy documents. Provides links to studies and research reports from agencies and universities.

BNA - Bureau of National Affairs [Chase Access]
Web based access to a wide range of BNA products. Sample topics include: employment and labor, health care, environment, intellectual property and tax. Public access via the computer terminals located on the 2nd Floor of the Law Library. Chase students and faculty should log-in to the Chase Intranet and access the Research Page.
Current Law Index [Print Resource]
Indexes legal journals with the following access points: Author/Title index, Table of Cases, Table of Statutes and Subject index. Coverage is 1980 to present.
Foreign Law Guide [Campus Access]
Web based access to "Foreign Law: Current Sources of Codes and Legislation in Jurisdictions of the World" by Thomas Reynolds and Arturo Flores. The resource offers bibliographic citations to legislation, sources of English translations, and references to some secondary sources. A helpful tool in locating a foreign country's laws on a topic, i.e., adoption, contracts, evidence, or immigration.
Hein Online [Remote Access]
Provides access to law journals, the Federal Register, U.S. Treaties and Agreements, U.S. Attorney General Opinions and U.S. Supreme Court information. The online documents are image based or high resolution reproductions of the original hardcopy. The resource covers both historic and current information.
Index to Legal Periodicals 1908-1981 [Chase Access]
Web based access to the Index to Legal Periodicals for the dates 1908 to 1981. Public access via the computer terminals located on the 2nd Floor of the Law Library. Chase students and faculty should log-in to the Chase Intranet and access the Research Page.
Index to Legal Periodicals [Print Resource]
Indexes over 600 English language legal publications, with several access points including: Author/Subject Index, Table of Cases, Table of Statutes and Book Review Index. Coverage is 1908 to present .
IndexMaster [Remote Access]
A compilation of the indices and the tables of content of over 8,000 legal titles from over 65 legal publishers.
LegalTrac [Remote Access]
Provides citations to articles published in law reviews and legal newspapers. Coverage is 1980 to present.
LLMC- DIGITAL [Remote Access]
A cooperative effort to preserve titles of interest to researchers in the areas of law and history. The historic collection includes legal treatises and primary resources for both federal and state governments.
Westlaw Pro [Chase Access]
Computer access 2nd Floor Chase Law Library. Unlimited access to federal and state case law and statutes. Use KeyCite feature to update your research. Public access via three computer terminals located on the 2nd Floor of the Law Library.

The SSRN eLibrary contains working and accepted papers in the fields of finance/economics, accounting research, legal scholarship, economic research and management research. The public can access most of the information for free by going to the SSRN home page and selecting the 'SSRN eLibrary' or by choosing 'Search and Download Papers' on the function bar. The Law Library focuses on the Legal Scholarship Network portion of the service.
