Small Business & Nonprofit Law Clinic

The Small Business & Nonprofit Law Clinic, founded in 2010, provides legal services to entrepreneurs, small businesses, and nonprofit entities in the local community. In its first five years, the Small Business & Nonprofit Law Clinic prepared 65 students for the practice of law and provided over 7,000 hours of free legal services to over 160 clients.

  • Chase law students staff the clinic under the supervision of a full-time clinic director and licensed attorney
  • Students interact directly with clients to provide legal advice on business-law issues including entity formation, contract review and drafting, basic intellectual property and other legal services
  • The clinic operates under the auspices of the Transactional Law Practice Center, and in partnership with NKU's Small Business Development Center and other similar local agencies in both Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky
  • The clinic furthers the law school's outreach to the community, particularly in the areas of community and business development

The Small Business & Nonprofit Law Clinic at Chase provides our students with valuable experiential learning, as sought by the practicing bar and American Bar Association. I am pleased that this clinic serves the needs of small entrepreneurs and nonprofits in the northern Kentucky and southwest Ohio region.

This is a great opportunity for students to learn hands-on practice skills and, at the same time, give back to the community. These days, legal employers are looking for new lawyers who have skills and experience. The clinic is one of many Chase offerings which provides this clinical experience, and it is the only one that focuses on business development and not disputes.
