Information session about the practice of military law

Attorneys from the U.S. Army JAG Corps will present an information session to discuss the practice of military law in the Army and explain the differences between the National Guard, Army Reserve and Active Army.

Western Kentucky is Site of Regional Reception for Alumni

In early December of last year, Dean Dennis R. Honabach traveled to the western part of Kentucky to spend some time with alumni who reside in that region. A number of Chase alumni, representing classes from the 70s up to the present year, had a chance to catch up on developments at Chase and enjoy each other’s company for an evening. Many of them had attended the Kentucky Bar Association’s Kentucky Law Update Program that was held at the Kentucky Dam Village.

Class of ’77 Reunites After 30 Years

The Chase Class of 1977 held its 30 -year class reunion on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at McCormick & Schmick’s in downtown Cincinnati. Members of the class had an opportunity to view their class composite along with other photos commemorating various activities during their years at Chase. The well-attended event included the sharing of data, some of it serious and some of it amusing, gathered from a class survey that has become a tradition in measuring many aspects of class members’ lives following their law school days.

Alumni Travel to D.C. for Annual U.S. Supreme Court Group Admission

Thirty-one Chase alumni traveled to Washington, D.C. to be sworn in as members of the United States Supreme Court Bar on Tuesday, November 13, 2007, marking the fourth annual Chase Alumni Association Group Admission Ceremony at the Supreme Court.

The Chase alumni, their family members and guests, along with representatives of the College of Law gathered at a reception the evening prior to the group admission ceremony at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill, where they were welcomed by Clerk of the U. S. Supreme Court William Suter, and his wife, Jeanie.

A reception followed the swearing-in ceremony at the Court the next day and was held in the East Conference Room where the portrait of U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Salmon P. Chase is displayed. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg each posed for a photo with the group. A luncheon was held at The Willard Hotel to conclude the day’s activities.

Chase College of Law and Alumni Association representatives participating in the events were: Judge Tony Frohlich ’80, Alumni Association president, and his wife, Candy, Mac Riley ’86, Jan Oliver ’91, Christie Wright ’98, Associate Dean David MacKnight, Alumni Director Terri Schierberg and Advancement Assistant Karen Young. Judge Frohlich made the Motion for Admission before the Court.

Bowling Green Alumni Turn Out to Meet the Dean

A reception held at the end of October at the Holiday Inn and Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green gave alumni in that area a chance to meet Chase Dean Dennis R. Honabach and visit with long-time Chase professor, former dean and Bowling Green native Henry L. “Steve” Stephens, as well as reconnect with fellow alumni. The reception was held at the conclusion of the Kentucky Bar Association’s Kentucky Law Update Program in that city.

Chase Alumni Association Holds Annual CLE Program

The Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law Alumni Association sponsored its annual CLE program on Friday, May 18. The program, titled “Privacy Issues,” was held in Nunn Hall and featured presentations by Dennis P. Kennedy ’95 (“Update on HIPAA”), Professor Richard A. Bales (“Privacy Issues in Employment Law”), Colleen M. Hegge ’87 (“Update on Identity Theft Litigation”) and the Honorable Timothy S. Hogan ’72 (“Ethics and Privacy”). The program was free for paid members of the Chase Alumni Association and was part of the fourth annual Chase Alumni Weekend, which also featured a golf outing and an awards gala. More than 300 alumni attended the Alumni Weekend events.

Chase Alumni Association Sponsors Annual Golf Outing

On Friday, May 18, the NKU Chase Alumni Association held its annual golf outing for Chase alumni and friends at the Kenton County Golf Course. The golf outing was part of the fourth annual Chase Alumni Weekend, which also featured a CLE program and an awards gala. More than 300 alumni attended the Alumni Weekend events.

NKU Chase College of Law Presents Alumni Awards

Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law honored members of its distinguished alumni by presenting them with alumni awards during the annual Chase Alumni Weekend Gala on May 19.

The Chase Alumni Association presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to W. Jack Grosse ’62, past dean and Professor Emeritus at Chase. Professional Achievement Awards were presented to Jakki L. Haussler ’88, CEO and co-founder of Opus Capital Management, and to Henry E. (Hank) Menninger, Jr. ’77, partner at Wood & Lamping. Kim Brooks Tandy ’89, executive director and founder of the Children’s Law Center, received the Exceptional Service Award, and the Outstanding Recent Alumnus Award was given to Matthew L. Garretson ’98, founding partner of The Garretson Law Firm. Michael C. Murray ’89, who received the Outstanding College of Law Alumni Award from Northern Kentucky University, was also recognized at the event.

The Gala was part of the fourth annual Chase Alumni Weekend, which also featured a continuing legal education program and golf outing. More than 300 alumni attended the Alumni Weekend events.

CBA & Chase Alumni Present "Speed Networking"

On Monday, February 5, the Cincinnati Bar Association's Young Lawyers Section, in association with the Chase Alumni Association, presented a unique opportunity for Chase students to meet a large number of area attorneys in a very brief period of time. The event, called “Speed Networking,” was designed specifically for 2nd, 3rd and 4th-year law students to each meet as many attorneys as possible—at least ten—with representatives from a variety of different fields of practice. Each attorney was seated at one of more than a dozen tables, and at the sound of the bell, groups of students moved from one table to the next. Each student-attorney meeting lasted approximately five minutes, and many of the attorneys remained after the event for students to ask additional questions.

Chase Alumni Gather for Reception in Naples, Florida

On Sunday, January 14, the Chase Alumni Association and the Northern Kentucky University Alumni Association co-hosted a reception at the Vineyards Country Club in Naples, Florida. Chase and NKU alumni and friends from Naples, Marco Island, Ft. Myers, Bonita Springs, Port Charlotte, Sarasota and surrounding areas were invited to attend the event. Guests at the reception had the opportunity to meet with NKU president James Votruba, NKU vice president for advancement Gerard St. Amand and Chase dean Dennis Honabach, who also attended.

Dean Visits with Alumni in London, Kentucky

Chase hosted a regional reception for alumni last September in London, Kentucky, following the Kentucky Bar Association’s Kentucky Law Update Program.

Alumni living in the area enjoyed the opportunity to chat with fellow alumni in their communities as well as meet Chase Dean Dennis R. Honabach and catch up on new developments at the College of Law at the London Country Club.
