Tax Concentration
The Chase Tax Controversy and Litigation Concentration Program provides students the opportunity to focus their studies and a way to signal this interest to prospective employers. To complete the Concentration, students must take several required courses (Basic Income Tax Concepts, Advanced Income Tax Concepts, Tax Writing Workshop, and Tax Practice & Procedure) and must also either participate in a tax moot court competition, an externship with the Internal Revenue Service Chief Counsel's Office, or a tax clinic.
Every year, the University of Buffalo hosts the Albert Mugel National Tax Moot Court Competition, which focuses on current issues involving the area of tax law. Chase often sends a team to this prestigious national competition. Chase teams have won several awards at this competition, including the following:
- 2009 National Champion and Best Oralist
- 2007 National Champion and Best Brief
- 1999, 1996 National Finalists
- 2000, 1989 Best Brief
- 1990, 1989 National Semi-Finalists
