J.D./MHI Program
The Juris Doctor / Master of Health Informatics (J.D./MHI) program is an attractive alternative for individuals who wish to practice law or healthcare in an increasingly dynamic and complex environment.
The Master of Health Informatics, through NKU's College of Informatics, will help students develop skills to manage vital information resources found throughout the healthcare profession. Healthcare providers and related businesses are turning to technological innovation to improve patient care, reduce costs and comply with federal and state regulations. These factors increase the demand for workers with specialized technical knowledge and skills in the healthcare industry - Health Informatics.
Students will gain an understanding of evolving healthcare concepts and learn basic information about technical aspects of health informatics like sophisticated Electronic Medical Record systems, patient monitoring tools and clinical decision support applications. At the end of this program, they will be able to use this knowledge and skills to understand technology related interactions between patient, clinician, and health care providers and solve complex cases.
- Certain J.D. courses serve as electives for the MHI degree, while certain MHI courses will fulfill electives for the law degree.
- The number of hours to obtain both degrees through the combined program is 108. To obtain each degree independently would be 125.
- Upon completion of all requirements of the combined program, the student is awarded both a J.D. and a MHI degree.
